Today is the day

Actually it will hardly be noticeable because I am taking off where I left one year ago. I have been waiting to get the dates right. I guess I did not have too much to say or invent. I still don't but I am going to do my best.

Claywise, I have not been working as much as I could have. You see, they got me an iPad for my birthday last year and I have been playing around with that a lot. Am I addicted? Yeah, sort of, but it is getting better. Actually I am fascinated by everything one can do with this tablet: possibilities unlimited. Artistically? oh yes! So much to do, so little time....

Last summer however, I got out the clay and made a bunch of tube bracelets. I had made one ten years ago, it was a long and finicky process and this time I wanted to figure out an easy way to make them without all the drilling and I wanted them to be solid.



And I found a way plus they are easy to make. I am using up a lot of canes that were given to me a while back and some are getting old and cracky. Just like me he he...


Le jour J

Je m'arrange pour que ça ne paraisse pas trop. J'attends: les dates vont finir par concorder. Un an déjà, j'imagine que je n'avais pas grand chose à dire ou à inventer. Je recommence donc et ferai de mon mieux.

Je n'ai pas travaillé la pâte autant que j'aurais voulu (les journées n'ont que 24 heures). Le malheur/bonheur étant qu'on m'a donné un iPad pour mon anniversaire le printemps dernier. J'y suis accro mais ça s'améliore (le temps aidant). Y a tant de choses à faire avec ces tablettes tactiles, c'en est hallucinant. Artistiquement? ah ben oui!

J'ai sorti ma pâte l'été dernier et j'ai fabriqué plusieurs bracelets-tubes. J'en avait fait un il y a dix ans et je le porte encore; le processus était compliqué et j'avais juré de ne plus jamais en faire un autre. J'ai peaufiné les étapes et me suis retrouvée avec un bracelet facile à faire et agréable à porter.



De plus, ils sont solides. J'utilise les canes qu'on m'a données il y a belle lurette; il est temps que je les utilise car elles vieillissent et commencent à craquer!! comme moi he he...

The bones remember

Well, I found a few metal templates that I still had. I gave away most of them: bored, remember?
I then started using liquid clay on them and got these interesting results.

J'ai trouvé quelques pièces de métal dans mon fouillis. J'en ai donné plusieurs: because enthousiasme = 0.
J'ai utilisé ma pâte liquide ("pâte/liquide" ça n'a pas de bon sens ça!!) et j'ai obtenu des résultats intéressants.



It was fun and I had the intention of using up all my metal pieces. However, my bones remembered... I love to do tiny finicky work but my body does not. The old shoulder problems were showing up. So that's it for now. I have a few metal templates left and I will play with them slowly: one at a time, here and there.

Je m'amusais bien et j'avais l'intention d'utiliser toutes mes petites pièces. Par contre, mes os se sont souvenu... J'aime beaucoup le travail minutieux mais le corps, non. Les vieux problèmes d'épaules sont réapparus (je ne joue pas avec ça; j'ai appris). C'est donc fini pour le moment. J'ai encore quelques pièces métalliques et j'ai l'intention de les compléter, un peu à la fois, ici et là.

Window

In my last blog post, I said I was bored with the metal/clay pendants. I had one on my workspace and took a look at it and thought that the metal/clay bond was not very good: they could be taken apart. I then thought I could put raw clay beads in the tiny holes located on the points to solidify the bond. I squished tiny clay beads in the holes with my ball tool instrument. I found some coloured liquid clay to fill in the cavities of the tiny squished beads. That got me looking at my stash of coloured liquid clay. Well, I had pretty cool colours to play with and I started filling in the cavities on the metal piece. Interesting results... My boredom flew out the window!

La semaine dernière, j'ai dit que je n'étais pas inspirée par les pendentifs pâte poly/métal que j'avais fabriqués jadis. Il y en avait un sur ma table de travail et en le regardant de plus près, je me suis rendue compte que le lien (métal/pâte) n'était pas très solide. Pour m'amuser j'ai décidé d'insérer une petite bille de pâte crue dans les minuscules trous situés sur les pointes. C'est ce que j'ai fait avec un instrument à bout rond. J'ai rempli les petites cavités avec de la pâte liquide que j'avais colorée. Comme j'ai un bel assortiment de couleurs, j'ai pensé qu'il serait aussi intéressant de remplir les cavités sur la pièce de métal. Et là, oh bonheur!! mon désintérêt avec ces pendentifs s'est envolé par la fenêtre...

Unfinished business

As I was taking the last pictures of the pyramids, I saw a metal insert and had an idea. The story goes like this:
About two years ago I saw these little metal pieces at the local dollar store. I bought a few of them because I thought the textures would be interesting. You guessed it, I am always looking for textures!

En prenant les dernières photos du projet pyramides, j'ai vu le petit machin/truc en métal et j'ai eu une idée. Voici l'histoire:
Il y a environ deux ans, j'ai vu des petites pièces métalliques au magasin du coin. Pas chers du tout. J'en ai acheté quelques unes pour faire des textures. Que voulez vous, je suis accro des textures.



I started making textures with my new shapes. They were ok but nothing to holler about. However, as I was pushing the clay through the shapes I was taken aback by the results of the clay through the shapes. What an idea for a pendant. So I then started experimenting and shared my idea with my friends at the Morrisburg Polymer Clay Gathering. Some of them showed me their own happy results.

J'ai commencé à faire des textures avec mes nouveaux machins/trucs. Intéressants mais pas assez pour envoyer une lettre à ma belle maman. Par contre, en poussant la pâte à travers les trous, j'ai été surprise par le résultat. Oh, les beaux pendentifs faciles à réaliser. J'ai fait quelques expérimentations et cette année là, j'ai partagé mon idée avec les amies qui sont venues à la rencontre de Morrisburg. Plusieurs m'ont fait part de leurs heureux résultats.



I then tried other things with the pendants such as clay blends, even textures. I then got bored with the idea because too easy I guess. Set everything aside.

Par la suite j'ai fait d'autres essais sur les pendentifs avec des dégradés et même des textures; mais, je me suis ennuyée très rapidement avec cette idée très/trop simple. J'ai tout mis de côté.

On to my nesting pyramids which pose a presentation problem. I guess the best is to play with them... but technology isn't there yet.

De retour à mon projet des pyramides qui me pose un problème de présentation. Le mieux serait de les manipuler mais la technologie n'est pas encore rendue là.

The assembly is done with waxed linen which I like because it allows the pyramids to bend both ways. Also: evidence of my strong fiberarts connection.

L'assemblage a été fait avec un fil de lin ciré, ce qui permet d'inverser les pyramides et qui témoigne de mon passé des arts de la fibre.

New Year - Nouvelle année

For the new year: dreams, creativity, discoveries, magic, health, peace, mostly peace.

Nesting pyramids. For one reason, I love to make things that can be manipulated/played with. The child in me is strong. Actually it started out as one single pyramid but it wasn't stable so I added another one and that wasn't stable so I made them smaller and smaller and now the structure is stable and fun to play with. I experimented with a lots of surface techniques. Why don't I make more of those?? Maybe this year, who knows!



Pour la nouvelle année: rêves, émerveillement, créativité, découvertes, magie, santé, paix, surtout la paix!

Pyramides qui s'emboîtent. Je ne sais pas pourquoi, mais j'aime fabriquer des objets à manipuler. Mon enfant intérieur se manifeste. En fin de compte, j'avais commencé par une pyramide mais la structure était instable alors j'en ai rajouté une autre (encore instable) puis une autre etc. J'ai aussi expérimenté avec beaucoup de techniques de surface. Pourquoi je n'en ai pas fait d'autres? Qui sait, peut-être cette année.

On the first day of winter....

Actually it feels like the first month of winter, but I digress!
My friend Sandy made these ornaments for the annual clayamies ornament swap which you can see here. She got the inspiration from an earlier post of mine. She is on a roll because she made other interesting ornaments. You can see her blog here. You will see why it is important to use an oven thermometer!!

The last of my daily posts. It was a good challenge indeed. Taught me a lot.
The other project:
From a fruit bowl to this bracelet... it was an interesting ride. I have a feeling it is not finished yet because there are some other things I want to explore (those last pendants). Choices I made on a given day. If I had done the exercise another month (ex: in the summer) would the results have been the same?? I often wonder about that....

La dernière de mes publications quotidiennes. Un bon défi pour moi. J'ai appris beaucoup.
L'autre projet:
Le départ, un bol de fruit, l'arrivée: un bracelet. Parcours intéressant et enrichissant. Impression: je n'ai pas encore terminé parce qu'il y a d'autre chose à explorer (les derniers pendentifs). Choix au quotidien: je me demande si les choix auraient été semblables si j'avais fait l'exercise un autre mois (en été par exemple). Cette question me fascine.



The bracelet looks pretty good. I started a second one (brighter colours-because november needs light). I already eliminated a few steps and one baking.

L'allure du bracelet me satisfait. J'en ai entrepris un autre aux couleurs plus brillantes (novembre = besoin de lumière). J'ai déjà éliminé quelques étapes et une cuisson.
